Cast Drawing #7: the Hands

In this 2:30 hour session of Cast drawing, we will be focusing on a detail of the hands from the sculptural group “The Wrestlers”.

With this composition, I tried to include both the realism of the hands and forearms and the abstraction created by the play of light and shadow on the forms of the body in the background. We will be drawing with charcoal and chalk on toned paper.

Materials:

  • A couple of sheets of Gray or tan toned paper,
  • charcoal in sticks (Nitram is an excellent product) and pencils, in medium and soft gradations,
  • white chalk in pencil or sticks,
  • kneaded eraser,
  • sand paper to sharpen the charcoal, that’s it!
