When you bump into a wall in Italy, chances are it is hundreds if not thousands of years old.

Who knows?
May be Julius Caesar bumped in the same wall 2,000 years ago on his way to the Senate on the ides of March.

Or may be you will be resting on the same church steps that Leonardo da Vinci sat on as he was sketching the faces of his fellow Florentines in preparation for one of his masterpieces.

Join me this coming Summer when I will be leading two separate 7 days workshops in Italy with focus on the human figure.

During the day we will visit museums and art sites to study and enjoy the many masterpieces depicting the human figure from the Classical period to the Baroque.

Figure Drawing sessions with models are scheduled for the late afternoon.

The Program

The artistic revolution that took place in Italy between the 14th and 17th centuries established a completely new approach to the figurative arts with the introduction of the humanistic ideals, perspective, anatomy and rediscovery of Classic art.

In particular, the approach to the depiction of the human figure defined during the Italian Renaissance has been at the core of the artistic training in Western Art Academies until the Modernist Revolution.

During the last 3 decades, this method has been undergoing a revival and is now taught again in Art schools, Academies and Ateliers.
During the day we will be visiting Museums and other sites focusing mainly on how the human figure was depicted during the early and high Renaissance, the Mannerism and the Baroque periods:
  • Leonardo
  • Michelangelo
  • Raffaello
  • Titian
  • Bernini
and many other great artists will be our teachers.
The late afternoons will be dedicated to 3 hours figure Drawing from life with Male and Female models.

These studio session will be preceded by ½ hour demonstrations where I will discuss techniques and structural and anatomical aspects of the human figure based on the Renaissance methods.
Feel free to contact me by email or using the form below to inquire about these workshops, I will be to tell you more in detail about the schedule, things we will be seeing, the studio sessions or any other questions you might have.
